If you’re a certified Instagram addict, you probably posted one or two of these food trends on your feed or perhaps witnessed your friends stopping a hungry pack of people on the table to take a carefully “flat-laid” pic of a feast before everybody wolfs it down. Here are some of the best (or worst) foodstagrams we’ve seen this year:
Avocado toast
Of course, who can leave out the one food item that dominated the feeds of millennials and probably still does until now? Avocado toast or “avo-toast” for the well-heeled youngsters, is so ubiquitous in social media that it has garnered a rather unpalatable reputation. The Cut called it first in 2014 when it published a story entitled, “The most annoying food on Instagram,” a satire making fun of avocado toast, when really it simply glorifies it. “Not even a really nice green, but green. And neatly square. Which makes it among the most eye-pleasing item in the urban diet of beige mush like cereal and burritos and deli California rolls.”

Anything unicorn
Aside from the mermaid, the unicorn is that one mythical creature that gained quite a following among the social media savvy crowd. Of course, brands and restaurants were only too quick to cash in on the trend. It replaced everyone’s fondness for taking well-curated shots of their coffee-filled mason jars and sunnies, practically because with a unicorn’s multi-colored goodness, you don’t need anything to add to the shot.

Gelato
Nothing says “I’m having the time of my life traveling in another part of the world” than a photo of one hand grasping on a perfectly scooped ice cream sitting on top of a waffle cone. Extra likes if the background is a tourist landmark from Europe, like the Eiffel tower, the canals of Venice, or a random cobblestoned street in Rome.

Latte art
Well, nothing signifies chill Sundays than a top shot of a latte art. It “coincidentally” happened to be sitting on top of a Kinfolk magazine or Financial Times (which, let’s be honest, you probably just browsed) and put beside your designer bag. Life is good, and latte art is here to prove it.

Brunch
Eating eggs Benedict and waffles drizzled with maple syrup and berries is one of the keys to super stardom. Extra likes if you’re dining al fresco or beside a glass window that overlooks the city. And even more points if you happen to wake up late and just put on your robe, and take a top shot of your brunch on your “messy” fluffy hotel bed.

This includes that healthy-looking oatmeal you munch down before going to yoga or pilates class.

Matcha
In all forms.

Pizza
The best (and normal) way of eating pizza is straight out of the oily box and in pajamas while chilling with Netflix movies. But in this generation, “experience” should be made to look anything but normal, so pizza is best served on a wooden chopping board (with red wine, margarita, or book on the side), and showing every possible angle of that mouthwatering melted cheese.
