The Great Interiors

Writer: Dianne Pineda-KimDianne Pineda-Kim

This café houses a delicate balance between caffeine and furniture

With its high ceiling, marbled floors, soft lighting, and sleek interiors that look like they're on display, it's easy to think that Everbean café is more like a furniture store or a fancy restaurant. But unlike other trend-crazed cafés that pretty much look like they're cut from the same Kinfolk-magazine aesthetic (small space, rustic chic, mismatched, and kitschy formula), this café goes big. Literally.

What is striking in this two-storey café is the expanse of space: there is ample room for a group of rowdy friends to catch up with each other and enough silence for that lone person with his nose buried on his laptop. Rarely does it have a packed crowd and it's quite ideal for working with just the right amount of din and no distractions. But more than its breathing space, the furniture is characterized by simplicity, minimalism and functionality that you almost want to take one piece home.

It's almost like a showroom of sorts, you can choose your own corner depending on your mood. If you're a young millennial, the booth with neon lights might suit you, and if you're there for a no-nonsense business, you might want to choose the black-and-white argyle chairs. For anyone in between, they have plaid chairs on stand by. But I'm guessing those chairs were just a second thought since they were just left in a sad corner.

Coffee is pretty decent.
